Rail Transit - LRT
Kelana Jaya Line

Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line

Rail services have become a significant factor in public transport in Kuala Lumpur since the implementation of two Light Rail Transit Systems (LRT) ie Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line (Formerly known as STAR line) and Kelana Jaya Line (Formerly known as Putra Line). Together they provide 56km of rail network with 49 stations.

The Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line (formerly known as STAR Line) is an elevated driver operated rail transportation system which plies through 25 stations operation on a 27km track. Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line has two lines covering Ampang eastern district to the city center and another line from Sentul towards the south to the National Sports Complex at Bukit Jalil.

The Kelana Jaya Line (formerly known as PUTRA Line) covers 29km from the eastern suburbs of Kuala Lumpur (Gombak) to the western suburbs (Petaling Jaya). With 24 stations at an average of 1.1km apart, it caters for commuters travelling to and fro into the city centre. The journey from one end to the other takes about 45 minutes, skirting areas which are heavily congested to help relief early morning jams.

The Light Rail Transit (LRT) system connects central Kuala Lumpur with outlying suburban centers within a 20km radius. With 49 stations for boarding, mostly at strategic high population areas, the LRT is a two prong strategy that not only offers convenient travel but it serves to significantly reduce the number of cars used for travel, thus serving to ease traffic congestion as well.
